Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My little apartment is perfect for me and reflects who I am. Each room has its own energy and is intentionally meant to make you feel relaxed when you walk in.
I am a black resilient woman who love, appreciates, and respect other women. My home reflects a representation of women, whether it’s by way of wall decor, photos, candles, and writers. The colors I chose were with intention; I love earth tone colors, brown wood, and combos of colors that make me feel relaxed when my eyes meet them. Every piece was purchased separately at different times to be sure that I was purchasing pieces that spoke to me. My home decor style is a work in progress a journey that’s still new. After getting a divorce, my goal was to find myself again, follow and go with what spoke to me without having to consider what anyone else like or needed in a home.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Calming, Modern, Sleek, Open, Minimal
What is your favorite room and why? Honestly, this whole apartment is my favorite. My absolute favorite is the one large floor-to-ceiling window with my small book collection on the window seal and my monstera plant that’s grown so big in last year as an accent. I love the way my room feels because it has a spa feel, very minimal with light color combos. My living area and kitchen island feels cozy. I look around and see women and pieces that speak to me, pieces I can look at forever and never feel over it. My bathroom is a fave as well I love the mismatch of subtle colors.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I purchased was a candle from Naked Scents Co. It’s a candle where the wax is the body of a naked woman.
Any advice for creating a home you love? TAKE YOUR TIME. Let it all come together over time. Allow yourself to be inspired by different things. Bring in pieces that speak to you and make you feel whatever it is that you want to feel. There are no rules; it’s your sanctuary.
