Bedroom with dark teal walls, decorative pillows on bed, brass lamp on wooden nightstand, and plants on window ledge.

I thought I’d tried everything when it came to tricks and products to help me get better sleep, from weighted eye masks to “dark showering.” I was convinced that comfy ear plugs were a necessity in my noisy Brooklyn neighborhood — that is, until I realized that some noise can actually be helpful to sleeping soundly, especially because I live in a high-noise area.

Everything changed when I tested out the Canopy Sound Machine + Aroma, and now I can’t remember how I ever slept without it.

What Is the Canopy Sound Machine + Aroma?

The small-but-mighty Canopy Sound Machine + Aroma is a cordless, screenless wellness device that has three distinct functions: It’s a sound machine, night light, and aroma diffuser. It’s designed for all ages, from babies to adults, and has 15 built-in sounds ranging from white noise to nature sounds to instrumental lullabies.

It measures 4 inches by 2 inches by 4 inches, and the device comes with an interior felt aroma pad for adding a few drops of the included lavender float aroma oil, which you can order refills of via a subscription. The attachable clip allows you to lay the machine down, stand it up, hang it, or clip it for use on-the-go. It has dimmable red and white light settings, and the device itself comes in white, gray, tan, green, and purple. It has a battery life of up to 15 hours of continuous use, so you can use it overnight or just use the 30-, 60-, or 90-minute timer settings.

What’s So Great About the Canopy Sound Machine + Aroma?

As someone who has struggled with sleep for years, it was important for me to find a white noise machine that was small, disconnected from my phone, and had a slew of hidden features while being truly affordable. I’ve always loved white noise and I know it’s been proven to significantly improve sleep in high-noise environments, but before I got the Canopy, I would play a white noise video or audio through the night on my phone. It worked well enough, but using my phone would kill my phone battery and required screen usage right before bed, which was antithetical to getting good sleep. I also like using it more than my earplugs, which can fall out overnight or sometimes feel uncomfortable. I appreciate that the Canopy Sound Machine + Aroma acts as a standalone device I can keep on my bedside table and that I only have to recharge it every few days. I like that it’s portable, so I can bring it with me on trips whenever I travel, and that it’s not connected to anything like an alarm clock or an app, making it a pure white noise machine aimed at helping my sleep quality improve.

Plus, the bonus features on this thing are great. I opted for a light green Canopy, and I love how many noises it has to offer, although I tend to favor low white noise, brown noise, or spatial ambience. I also love using the night light settings for reading before bed, because it’s so much gentler than my bedside lamp and creates such a cozy environment. The calming lavender oil adds a cherry on top of the sleeping experience that makes my bedroom feel like a little mini spa. To say this powerful little cube has changed my sleep for the better is an understatement — I couldn’t recommend it more to anyone hoping to finally sleep through the night.
