As we rang in 2021 earlier this year, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to improve my sleeping habits. To say they needed some work was the understatement of the century. From going to bed well into the wee hours of the morning to tossing and turning all night long, I knew I needed to make some changes. What better way to start than by taking a hard look at what I was sleeping on? My biggest complaint when it came to sleeping was temperature regulation. As a hot sleeper, keeping my body at a consistent, comfortable temperature has always been an issue. So when I discovered the magic that is cooling sleep technology earlier this year, it was a life-changing event. While I knew cooling sheets were a thing (you can read more about my favorite bed sheets for hot sleepers here), I didn’t think this technology could extend to mattresses as well. But when I heard about Casper’s New Nova Hybrid Snow Mattress, a mattress designed specifically with hot-sleepers in mind, I knew I had to test it out.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: I am a big fan of this mattress — and it’s all thanks to its ingenious five-layered design. Wrapped in a quilted QuickCool cover that provides a cool-to-the-touch feel, the top layer of this plush mattress is made from AirScape foam, a perforated foam that’s coated with cooling gel. Under this is a second layer of AirScape foam with three ergonomic zones for pressure point relief. There are also six HeatDelete bands that actively direct heat away from the body. Next is the Zoned Support Pro layer that provides support for proper spinal alignment thanks to its seven (!) support zones. And rounding off this hybrid mattress is a spring base that provides traditional support and acts as the perfect companion to this mattress’s foam layers.

Upon receiving this mattress I was shocked at just how well it performed. Full transparency: I entered the testing phase incredibly skeptical. While I had no doubt the mattress would be comfortable (Casper’s reputation precedes itself), I feared that the cooling claims wouldn’t live up to the hype. However, after just one week I knew this was the real deal as I remained comfortably wrapped up in my comforter each night and awoke each day without a hair out of place (a rarity as the nape of my neck is consistently drenched after a good night’s sleep).

So who would I say this mattress is a great fit for? Well, aside from the obvious — hot sleepers — if you’re someone who sleeps on their back or side, I’d almost guarantee you’d fall in love with this mattress. I’m a dedicated side sleeper, and for the first time in my life, I can truly say I felt properly supported by a mattress. The zoned support walks the walk, with my shoulders and hips remaining pain-free even though there was a bit of comfortable sink. But if you’re a stomach sleeper, this might not be the best pick for you, which isn’t the biggest surprise for a softer bed. I’d also call this a great pick for couples as the motion transfer is incredibly minimal. What a winner!

While this mattress definitely sits at a luxury price point, it’s a great investment as a top-of-the-line mattress that will improve your sleep and last you for years to come. Bonus: Now through September 13, you can save 15 percent during Casper’s Labor Day sale. Combine this with free shipping, a 100-night trial period, and Casper’s 10-year warranty, and I’d say this is the best time to snag the coolest mattress on the block.
