This California Castle Has Carnival Rides in the Backyard — And It Can Be Yours for $4 Million

It’s not uncommon to see homes with fire pits and swimming pools in their backyards. But one property in California does it better: it has its own theme park.

According to Realtor.com, Amador Castle in the city of Jackson is a 30-acre property that comes with its own carnival rides, including a collection of animal sculptures, a merry-go-round, a train ride, bumper cars, an Octopus ride, and two Ferris wheels.

Unfortunately, no private rollercoaster like the one in “Richie Rich.” 

Still, the 8,500-square-foot house plus the amenities at the back are impressive, and they can all be yours for only $3,995,000. Allan Veto III, a listing agent from Foundation Real Estate, assured prospective buyers: “They’re all operable, and they all work.”

According to Veto, the castle was pretty ordinary — as far as castles go — for decades, up until the original owner invited a couple to the ownership group in 2005. They then started adding new features.

“He owns a paving company and is very wealthy and a little bit eccentric. He came in and remodeled the kitchen and put the elevator in and did a bunch of work for the downstairs. Then he also put in all of the circus equipment and all of the aluminum animals that line the entire driveway.”

Veto argues that the house itself is remarkable without the carnival rides. It features seven bedrooms, a main kitchen and a basement kitchen with a full bar and banquet hall, six bathrooms, and a pool and spa.

“When people first walk up there, it’s just shock and awe. But a lot of people don’t realize how beautiful the house is,” he said. “When you’re looking at it from the street, all you can really see is the circus equipment. You can’t see the house from the street.”

Veto believes the property would make for an amazing events venue or winery.

“The main house is pretty much designed for weddings. The back patio is gorgeous, and there’s the bar area with the banquet hall. There’s plenty of space to grow and add whatever you want to make it as photogenic as you possibly need to.”

He added: “A lot of people get hung up on just the carnival rides from the very beginning. They don’t get to see how beautiful the house is — or the potential.”
