Tan France’s First Furniture Collection Is Exactly What I’d Expect From a Fashion Expert
Though he’s best known as the resident fashion pro on the Queer Eye reboot, New York Times best-selling author, actor, and producer Tan France has emerged as a home style savant in the past few years, too. First, the multi-hyphenate shared his kids’ room storage makeovers with us at Apartment Therapy. Then the construction of his family’s home was chronicled in a video series with Architectural Digest. Now, France is partnering with global design brand Castlery on his first-ever furniture and decor collection.
What Is the Castlery x Tan France Home Collection?
With 18 pieces across furniture, lighting, rugs, decor, and accessories, the Tan France x Castlery collaboration marries France’s design vision with Castlery’s contemporary, quality construction. Though the collection isn’t huge, the assortment has wonderful breadth and includes living room staples like a gorgeous wood-accented sofa as well as anchor pieces like a media storage cabinet and several occasional tables. There’s also a chic accent chair with cozy upholstery, which would look just as lovely in a bedroom seating area as it would the living room.
The collection also touches on dining room design. A beautiful wooden dining table and chairs, as seen just above, are all you’d need to furnish a lovely space for sharing meals. Rounding out the collection are a gorgeous glass table lamp, a shapely mirror, a few different rugs and pillows, and a set of sculptural vases.
Lovely Touches Inspired by France’s Personal Story
The collection has a lovely global flair that draws from many influences, thanks to France’s British-Pakistani upbringing as well as Castlery’s Singaporean roots. The details are exquisite — from carved patterns to shapely silhouettes reminiscent of architectural features like arches and pillars. You can imagine the items living in a variety of settings because they pull from so many different design references.
Maybe France sums this bevy of influences up best: “Living between cultures and countries has taught me that home isn’t just somewhere you live, it’s something you create, wherever you are,” France said in a press release about the collaboration. “I wanted to create pieces for the moments that bring a home to life — the table where everyone gathers, the sofa you sink into after a long day, the lamp you switch on when the house finally goes quiet. The beauty of a home is found in those everyday rituals, and I wanted this collection to celebrate them.”
Fashion for the Home You Can Shop Now
Given that he’s a fashion expert and designer, materiality and construction clearly mattered to France. He made sure to incorporate plenty of tactile materials, including carved detailing, solid oak, leather, wool, and velvet.
The Castlery x Tan France collection is available online now and can also be seen in Castlery showrooms around the world. Check out the whole line when you get a chance, and shop some of my favorites here.
