This Bouclé Dining Chair Immediately Caught My Eye When Designing My WFH Space

When it came time to set up a home office in my new New York City apartment, I wanted to create a space that would be both functional and stylish — with an emphasis on stylish, of course. After all, when you live in a small space, it’s not as though you can simply close the door and say goodbye to your work station at the end of the day. If your space is anything like mine, you’re still looking at your WFH setup as you prep dinner, watch TV, or curl up on the sofa with a book.

I originally set up my desk in my bedroom, but I’ve since relocated it to my living room, and I’m lucky the chair I selected works great in both spaces. It’s the Inesse Ivory Dining Chair, a fun bouclé piece from CB2, and while it’s more modern than some of my other furnishings, it can be styled to look ultra-Parisian and classic. In my opinion, this piece also pairs perfectly with my vintage black desk, a secondhand find from when I lived in Washington, D.C. I like how comfy and cozy I feel while working but also appreciate that this chair can easily be pulled farther into my living space as extra seating during a get-together with friends.

Don’t get me wrong: I know there’s something to be said for traditional, ergonomic desk chairs, but truthfully, I don’t spend all day sitting upright at my desk anyway. As a writer, I find that I’m sometimes more inclined to sit on the sofa or even (gasp!) on my bed when it comes time to hunker down and work on an article. The desk space is more for when I’m participating in video calls or taking notes. So keep that in mind if your working situation is a bit different than mine; this may or may not be the right chair for your needs, but I think it works really well in my setup, as shown below.

Back to the stylish part of this equation, though: What I also think is nice about purchasing a more decorative chair for one’s desk space is that it’s a fun way to still partake in a particular trend (in my case, bouclé) without totally breaking the bank. At around $350, this chair definitely isn’t a budget buy, but for me, it was much more manageable to purchase just one as opposed to going in on a set of four or six for a dining area. If I relocate to a larger apartment down the line, and my layout changes, I’d definitely consider purchasing one or two more of these chairs for a breakfast nook.

My final comment about this chair was how easy it was to unpack. It arrived to my home preassembled and is lightweight enough for me to lift and move around on my own. All in all, this piece is a major winner.
