I’m all about simple ways to liven up my walls as much as the next person. Framed prints, posters, and photos have definitely been there for me when I needed them most. And then late last year, when woven wall hangings came out of hiding from the 1970s, I was on board. But there’s a new kid on the block, and I’m kind of crushing hard on—wait for it—ceramic bells.

Exactly what they sound like, these hanging bells are popping up more and more in interiors. With all sorts of styles, colors, and sizes available in a range of prices, you can add them to any room in your home for an easy, chic solution to bare walls. Designer Emily Henderson wanted a clean, California casual look in her last living room, so she used a trio of ceramic bells with a simple pattern to add interest to her wall without overcrowding it with decor. This area would probably be too small for a piece of art, but ceramic bells are the perfect size. They hold their own visually without stealing the spotlight from the stone fireplace focal point to their right.

Another great thing about bells: They’re not limited to one season. When December rolled around in her new home, Henderson hung her bells over her garland-draped piano for a subtle addition to this holiday vignette. Blogger and designer Kaitrin Degan added soft bohemian vibes to this otherwise masculine-feeling mid-century modern room with a single white bell above a chair. It’s a simple touch, but it has a big impact.

And if you’re looking for a DIY option, you can make your own “bells” with a couple terracotta planters, as blogger Maggie Minhas did. Talk about a cheap, chic thrill! She found these patterned planters in the Target dollar spot, but you could definitely recreate this project with plain terracotta planters and some paint.

So far we’ve seen bells used on their own, but they also can work in a larger gallery wall arrangement. The combination of bold bells and colorful art above gives the wall at Morningtide, a decor shop in California, an eclectic, collected feel.
