Name: Charlotte
Location: Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, Pennslyvania

We live in a one bedroom apartment in a 16-story building (older but well maintained) just a block and a half from Rittenhouse Square and catty-corner from the most wonderful Philly bakery, Metropolitan. I live with my boyfriend. We are two students, so we are incredibly budget conscious. Our style is eclectic: mid-century (or imitation) with warmer, older accents from flea markets, ebay, etsy and hand-me-downs.

We also rely on parental hand-me-downs (rugs, re-finished antique dining room table). As students, I would say that we designed the living room around our book collection (I am getting my PhD in art history so I require A LOT of books). And now I’ve started piling books on my floor because I’ve run out of space! My boyfriend and I went to college together, so we have lots of vintage college posters, knickknacks, etc.

Our living room and one wall of our bedroom face west, so we get incredible afternoon light and sunsets as well as a lovely view of Philly rooftops. I lived in a studio in the same building for my first three years of grad school when my boyfriend was working in New York. Then we moved to DC for a year, and now we are both back at school in Philly. We couldn’t resist moving back to the same exact neighborhood, full of coffee shops, BYO restaurants, Philly’s famous farmer’s markets, tons of brownstones, and many friends. Our apartment is approximately 750 square feet.
