A Stunning Chicago Home Sports Brick Walls, Lots of Plants, and a Disco Ball in the Bathroom
Name: Christine Knoerr, partner Cal, and pets Nina and Louie
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Type of home: House
Years lived in: 2 years, owned
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I bought this house in 2018 with my older brother. We had a plan to fix it up to rent out, with the possibility of me renting one of the units. We were going to clean it up, make our plan, and move slowly.
An hour after we signed and got the keys, we were breaking down the walls to expose that beautiful brick. We don’t have a lot of patience. A few months (and many long nights) later, and the unit was ready! I moved in while we worked on the downstairs unit.
Then I reconnected with my high school crush, Cal, who was moving back to Chicago. Cal moved back and it was so, so good. He moved in with me and helped make this house even more special than I knew possible. Plus he brought his perfect little lab, Louie. He’s five years old and the cuddliest sweetest little monster. My bossy (sweet sweet sweet) Nina girl hates him. It’s great.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Textures, evolving, lively, weird, and fantastic.
What is your favorite room and why? The bathroom because of the plants, the disco ball, and the skylight. There are a few months where the sun hits it just right and the whole room lights up. Some even sneaks into the hallway. It is something special.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Antique floral chairs.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Get a disco ball and some plants.
