As if they didn’t have enough on their plate, “Fixer Upper” alums Chip and Joanna Gaines are getting into the hotel business.

The duo made their big announcement via YouTube video posted on their Magnolia website, as they stood in a dilapidated hotel ballroom to declare the news that the property is now theirs.

“Ya’ll we’re going to have a hotel in downtown Waco, Texas,” announced Chip, dressed in a bright red bellhop’s uniform.

In a post on their site, Joanna Gaines went into further details.

“Chip and I are thrilled to share the news that in 2021, we will be opening the doors to a boutique hotel in downtown Waco, Texas!” Gaines wrote.

The hotel will be located the Waco Grand Karem Shrine Building, which originally opened in 1928. With a unique Moorish-style exterior featuring a grand, arched entryway, the 53,000-square-foot historic building is just a few blocks from Magnolia Market at the Silos. The three-story structure will feature a rooftop terrace, grand ballroom and ground-floor restaurant and café, the Waco Tribune reported.

As for details on their revitalization of the space, the Tribune continued by quoting a release that said “The hotel’s design will evoke Joanna’s affinity for timeless, classic details, while also preserving the building’s rich history and highlighting its distinctive architectural features.”

“We are, without a doubt, firm believers that home is the most important place on earth,” writes Joanna on their site. “But we’ve also learned that home can be found beyond a physical dwelling. We were amazed by the unique architecture and how much of it was still intact. Instantly, we knew we wanted to be a part of making this place sing again.”

Chip and Joanna will team up Adventurous Journeys (AJ) Capital Partners,  the same folks behind Soho House Chicago, the Graduate Hotels, Chicago Athletic Association, and the Pontchartrain Hotel.

“They are known to do some amazing hotels around the country. You should google them,” Joanna says in the video. “We are ready to get started on this iconic building downtown a few blocks away from the Silos. It’s going to be a big project, but we cannot wait to restore it back to its former glory.”

Scheduled to be ready in 2021, Chip and Joanna’s Magnolia company purchased the building from McLennen County back in July of 2018 for $930,000.
