Alice and Anaïs are the founders of the creative studio Girlzpop and of the media company, MOYO. And their French apartment has classic Parisian elements — crisp white walls, crown molding, arched doorways, and gold-rimmed mirrors. Alice and Anaïs have personalized the space with playful lighting fixtures, a custom-upholstered green fringed velvet sofa, and a cerulean blue dining set. After I gushed over their varied fresh flower arrangements and got to my photographs, the two settled in on the sofa reading and drawing as French pop music played in the background.

Alice and Anaïs used to live in the 9th arrondissement, but have lived in the 17th arrondissement of Paris since finding this apartment a year ago, but they hesitated to make the move at first because it would double their rent.

“We asked our friend Caroline Drogo to draw us tarot cards to make a decision. She told us that the apartment was going to bring us a lot of creativity and that we would develop a lot of projects around him. We took it and that’s what happened!” they explain. “We later learned that this apartment has always been inhabited by creative people — a novelist, a production manager — it is as if it shared with us a little magic.”

“We spend a lot of time in this apartment, which is our place of life, our place of reception, and work, too. It is on the 5th floor and you can see the roofs and the sky, which is a luxury in Paris!” they write. “Our taste for the art of the house and our passion for the encounters of new craftsmen unfold in the heart of our Parisian apartment, and it has become a showcase of our explorations. Every day, we share our favourites and creations on our Instagram account that reflects our vision of the art of living and our idea of originality.”

Inspiration: The varied floral compositions day and night, alongside the many DIYs. Creations that come to life in our hands when we design the furniture that invests our living room. As self-taught craftsman, we also take pleasure in exhibiting at home the work of artisans we admire, like the luminous creations of Pani Jurek. Seduced by their forms, it is also for the human hidden behind each room that we move our jewel case to heart. We have a deep faith in encounters, for what they bring in inspiration, light, and energy: Life, humans, and nature are infinite powers of inspiration. The reason why Moyo Paris was born: an ultimate project that fits this time in the world of media and that advocates a positive business. The culmination of a benevolent and free state of mind that we care about!

We see our home as a creative project in its own right. We started from an inspiration: the house of Monet, famous for its colorful dominant pieces that develop to finally create a visual narrative. It is both a mixture of intuitive creation like Alice’s paintings and collages and an inspiring search for harmony. It is finally very easy because we sometimes accept to make the wrong choices and change with the seasons. We do not live in a gallery; our space is a ground of expression in motion.

Favorite Element: All are for different reasons! Designer pieces such as the woven chandelier designed by Studio Numeroté in our room. Our cherished tables that we designed, that a friend of mine designed to end up being painted by a talented artisan. In the same vein, we were looking for a piece of furniture that could accommodate the record player, the speaker, and our small vinyl collection. We met Squire’s Furniture and it was love at first sight for his know-how! Carpets also have a very specific story: We wanted pieces that bring a little warmth but nothing suited us. We discovered Lavinia Augeai, the creator of Color Therapis, and very quickly, the desire to engage a collaboration emerged. Born from this exchange the Giverny collection in homage to the house of Claude Monet who inspired us so much for this apartment.

Biggest Challenge: To bring color without having to repaint all the walls of the apartment we rent. We were able to do this by designing our colorful tables and adding large colorful elements to the space like choosing a green prairie sofa. Also by the purchase of flowers that totally change the mood of the pieces according to the weeks.

Proudest DIY: We are very proud of the fringes brought to the IKEA sofa and added a velvet cover from cover couch. This gives it a whole other dimension. Very British kitsch, which we love very much.

What are your favorite products you have bought for your home and why? When we don’t find what we like in shops, we decide to do it by creating collaborations with artisans we meet. The placemats that make our table very festive that we made in collaboration with Léa sionneau. We also love our lavender sheets from Tekla, whose color is very intense. As well as: illustration by @belmathilde, lamps from Gropius in the living room, lamp @studionumerote in the bedroom; the vase of dried flowers from @dodu, our dish from Ladoublej.

Please describe any helpful, inspiring, brilliant, or just plain useful small space maximizing and/or organizing tips you have: The kitchen of our very small apartment was painted from floor to ceiling and it was a revelation for us. Painting the ceiling the same color as the walls creates a setting for a small room, a cocoon for a room. Feels like we’re at a hotel.

Does your home reflect your home country/city in any way? Our space is like Monet’s house in Giverny, Normandy. So there’s a French countryside atmosphere in Paris with vichy fabrics as well, which we use a lot. We like wood as well.

What are your favorite places to shop for home décor that can only be found in your country? We love vintage shops like @gasoline.brocante. We love Fleux very much for which we have done creative curation lately. Selency for vintage is very cool here, too. Leboncoin is a gold mine of treasures. And the Marché Saint-Pierre in Montmartre is 10 minutes from the house; we go there very often for fabrics that serve as tablecloths.

Finally, what’s your absolute best home secret or decorating advice? For us, decoration is a source of optimism. We must dare!
