Every Room of This London House Is an Explosion of Envy-Inducing Color and Pattern
Name: Lily Sawyer, husband, three kids, and mother
Location: London, UK
Type of home: Terraced House
Size: 1600 square feet
Years lived in: 6.5 years, owned
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: It’s an original Victorian property built in 1896. Some original features include fireplaces and a brick oven. I live with my three kids, now 11, 13 and 14, my husband, and my 81-year-old widowed mother.
It was all plain and magnolia [UK’s version of “renter beige walls”] when we moved in and it had three bedrooms. We have since added a loft with two more bedrooms and a shower room.
We also injected our love of pattern, colour, and nature in our home and hope that it reflects our story and journey as a family.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Eclectic, Maximalist, Color, and Pattern-rich
What is your favorite room and why? The front room is the current favorite with our new mustard-colored sofa against our dark green walls and ceiling.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The cabin! We built a “cabin-in-the-woods” in our garden!
Any advice for creating a home you love? Don’t be afraid to inject your own personality. A home that tells your story is the best home for you.
Art, furniture, and color are some ways you can bring soul to a space.
