This Artist Transformed a “Grubby and Run-Down” U.K. Home into a Colorful Gem
Susan Jessop describes her home — this 850-square-foot, three-bedroom house she’s owned for three months — before she moved in as “grubby and run-down.” A painter who says she’s inspired by interior domestic spaces, Susan says this is the first home she’s gotten to choose all the colors and furnishings for.
“I began designing my home during my MA studies in fine art, and my home reflects the colors and shapes within my paintings,” she writes. “It has high ceilings upstairs, and open-plan living below. I have sourced all the furniture secondhand from local thrift stores to create an eclectic mix with my paintings on each wall.”
Susan describes her home as a “colorful home, inspired by my artwork, a mix of Victorian and mid-century modern.” And when asked for her best advice for decorating a home, she suggested that you go with your gut when it comes to picking colors. “Many people told me it would be too much to be so vibrantly painted,” she says of her own home.
