Loredana, a tattoo artist, was the one to find and fall in love with this apartment in Brussels. It was the high ceilings and large windows letting in a ton of light that caught her attention about the 1076-square-foot rental, which she shares with her partner, Eliot, a photographer.

Beyond the space’s stunning architecture, the home also has sentimental value to the couple, who together run the interior Instagram account @well.homed. “We are deeply attached to it because it is the basis of our meeting,” Eliot begins. “We met because we were neighbors — Eliot lived in the flat across the street, and we were waving at each other. We first met as neighbors and we are now lovers, living in this flat for one-and-a-half years,” says Loredana.

When it came to decorating their home, they aimed to make it a cozy living space, but also wanted it to be a space for “creativity to flourish.” The way they’ve used color has contributed to their goal, as well as how much light the space gets.

”This light immediately gives a feeling of grandeur and freedom, both relaxing and inspiring,” Eliot writes. “We particularly appreciate the space, as it allows us to easily change the furniture layout, to play with colors and textures to create a different atmosphere according to our desires and needs.”

“We want this place to be first and foremost a place for sharing. It’s meant to be flexible, playful, and colorful — a kind of game in space,” Eliot continues. “Our friends often talk about the fact that life at the flat is part of another space-time, outside everyday life, a kind of space-time rift that encourages slowness and stimulates creativity.”
