Built in 1973, their apartment actually is a family home — the couple debated between buying a new place or renovating this one. In the end, they decided to renovate the 840-square-foot space into a colorful, modern, and organized home.

“The apartment had three bedrooms before the renovation. Before starting the work, we considered reconfiguring the layout, expanding certain areas, and making the apartment feel more ‘open’ and bright,” Miguel begins.

In order to refine the couple’s ideas and make sure the renovation went smoothly, Miguel and Gabriel decided to hire the architecture studio Nook Architects, which the couple says was a perfect fit.

Along with a space that would work for their family, they also shared with Nook Architects that they are “inspired by 8-bit video games,” and were looking for bold, vibrant colors in the design.

"For the living areas, we chose white to create a sense of calm, adding pops of color through accessories. Meanwhile, the kitchen and bathroom were designed as lively, welcoming spaces in contrast," Miguel explains.

Miguel says that the construction took eight months to complete, and that renovating ended up being “significantly more economical than buying a new apartment — plus we got superior finishes and a completely customized design tailored just for us.” Along with Nook Architects, the couple hired the construction company Construcciones Calipsa -1 S.L. for their renovation. “They made the entire renovation process much smoother by handling all the typical challenges that come with a rehabilitation project,” Miguel admits.

“Once the renovation was completed, the space was perfectly tailored to all our needs and demands,” Miguel explains. “Now we have a spacious, bright, comfortable, and functional apartment. In the end, we settled on green, blue, and yellow, which became the foundation for the rest of the home.”

Thanks, Miguel!
