Charlotte‘s initial plan when she, her husband, and their five kids moved into this house in Fairfield, Connecticut, was simply to add lots of color, personality, and whimsy to what was a large but kind of blah home without historic character. Not intended to be their forever home (and because they were on a budget), what was not in her plan was to spend a ton of money renovating. Instead she has used paint, DIY skills, and a lot of creativity to transform this space. And after moving three times in five years, Charlotte has a lot of practice DIYing homes into incredible spaces bursting with color and personality.

“When I left NYC for the suburbs, I started blogging about projects in my old home and now I’m a full-time content creator!” begins Charlotte, who is a former teacher turned school counselor turned DIYer/designer. “I try to share colorful and creative ways to decorate your home with individualism and personality … without breaking the bank. I love a good furniture flip and don’t hesitate to try things myself rather than immediately calling in the pros. As a result I’ve taught myself how to wallpaper, lay tile, do basic plumbing, build furniture, etc. I try to enjoy the process of creating as much as the finished product and believe that learning is often a result of having a ‘just try it!’ attitude.

Charlotte’s expertise is DIYs that add a ton of quirk and fun in a space and that look high-end and expensive, all while being low in budget. Every room in the house has had her signature style applied to it, from the awesome yellow DIY dresser in the entryway, to the colorful paint job in the kitchen distracting from a traditional cabinet style (that’s not really their style), to incredibly cool DIY green bunkbeds that I wish I had gotten to sleep in when I was a kid. Take the tour in the gallery or video above to see more of Charlotte’s gorgeous home.
