These $13 Colorful Amazon Velvet Pillowcases Trick People Into Thinking I’m Fancy
When I moved into my first apartment without roommates, I fantasized about a plush blush pink velvet couch as the centerpiece of my decor. With a $2,500 price tag for my dream sofa from Joybird though, it was clear I had to find another way to bring this soothing shade into my home, and I found it in a $13 set of Miulee velvet throw pillowcases from Amazon.
These super soft pillowcases look similar to ones sold at West Elm (but are a whopping $56 dollars cheaper!), and for the first few months of setting them out on my boring tan sofa, friends would run their hands over them and say how expensive they looked and felt. The stream of compliments was endless, even as I rotated more exciting throw pillows into and out of the mix, including a terrazzo print accent pillow, a set of floral cushions from Target, and a very specific “High School Musical 2” pillow of Zac Efron performing “Bet On It”. The blush covers, however, were still the most noticed at every party I hosted. I purchased them with 18”x18” pillow inserts that actually cost more than the cases ($9 each on Amazon), and they’ve held up well for three years of being primarily decorative but also occasionally used for back support.
I’ll be honest—I’ve only laundered them twice in that time because they don’t get a lot of direct contact with people. I turned them inside out and washed them on cold and hung them to dry, so they didn’t shrink, pill, or shed at all. One of the little things I love most about the design is that the fabric is slightly stretchy so you don’t have to wrestle to get the pillow inside the cover. The zipper is also the exact color of the pillow, so it is nearly invisible.
At this price point, I thought they’d be replaced once a year, but instead, now I’m considering buying more colors and swapping them out seasonally. Amazon carries 32 colorways in eight different sizes, so there’s bound to be something that works for your home. These blush pink ones work for spring and even into summer, but jewel tones like mustard yellow and teal are calling my name for fall. And at $13 a pair, I don’t mind throwing my money at throw pillowcases indefinitely.
