Peta Nind is the owner of a bright and leafy indoor plant store, Living Gifts Bendigo, located in the center of the city of Bendigo, about two hours away from Melbourne. The store features white walls, which act as a blank canvas for a stunning array of color — every type of green you can imagine from all of the beautiful plants, but also fun pops of primary colors in the shape of planters and accessories.

It’s a solid interior palette for a joyful interior, one in which she continues in the rental house she’s been sharing with three teenage sons (Aidan, Oliver, and Rowan), a Husky dog named Sunny, a Maine Coon cat named Missy, and a Ragdoll cat named Milo for four-and-a-half years.

Peta, who isn’t sure her home style fits into any one category, does subscribe to being a maximalist, and says she loves quirky things, plants, and “all things colorful, especially blue.” A deep, primary, cobalt blue is a repeating element throughout all the home’s rooms (along with the green in plants, of course), and although she’s found some objects already available in the perfect blue (like the dining room chairs) she’s also taken the matter into her own hands, spray painting a few furniture pieces with her favorite hue.

Despite being populated with a variety of items from all sorts of design styles, Peta and her boys’ home feels cohesive, stylish, and joyful, a product of what Peta describes as sticking to buying what you love so it all goes together. “Just decorate with things that you love and that make you smile/happy,” she advises. “Don’t worry about trends. Buy good-quality, preloved items when you can.”
