This Chic $60 Cooling Comforter Cut My Summer Electricity Bill in Half
Recently, after two years living in my Brooklyn apartment, I decided it was high time I invest in some new bedding. I like to be really cold when I sleep, no matter the season, but in the summer — especially given how hot it’s been this year — it’s extra-important. In the winter, cozying up under my duvet is a feeling I like forward to all day; but once it warms up, that heavy duvet starts to feel a bit suffocating. And after I saw just how high my last electricity bill was, I realized that I couldn’t rely on the AC alone. My big, plush duvet probably needed to go.
Last year I switched to cooling bamboo sheets, which were totally life-changing. Naturally, then, I figured a cooling comforter might just be the one thing I was missing in my quest for the ultimate cool-girl bed (pun intended). So when Cozy Bliss gave me the opportunity to test out their best-selling Seersucker Plaid Cooling Comforter, I simply couldn’t pass it up — and, much to my delight, it really did live up to the hype.

Features That Stand Out
As soon as I got my new comforter out of the packaging, I couldn’t wait to get into bed. It really is so soft — even more so than I had expected. The bubble-like textured seersucker fabric on top adds some much-needed visual intrigue; it’s similar to the ruched duvet I was using for the winter, but the underside of the comforter is smooth, sleek, and super cooling. And I mean instantly cooling: Not only does it seem to keep me from overheating at night, but it’s also literally cool to the touch from the moment I get into bed. It has a Q-Max rating of 0.45, meaning the fabric is even more efficient than bamboo and silk at dispersing heat.
Not only is the microfiber super-soft and cooling, but it also repels pet hair. I have a cat — Phoebe, aka Princess — who recently decided that her favorite place to sleep was on my pillow. (She’s 16 years old, so she pretty much does what she wants. I just change the sheets every day now.) Unfortunately, her gorgeous multicolored Calico coat means her fur shows up on just about any and everything — which makes things difficult for someone like me who loves the look of white bedding. But unlike the white cotton duvet cover I’d been using before, after a few weeks of use this one still looks as bright and clean as ever. I’ve washed it a couple of times, but the difference is truly remarkable.
How It Performed
Not only has it been keeping my bed clean and helping me sleep, but my new comforter also looks so much better than I’d hoped. Most other cooling comforters seemed thin and flimsy-looking. And one major pet peeve of mine is when you’re able to see the circular loop stitching too clearly on a comforter; to me, that little detail can instantly cheapen the look of the whole bedroom. But the seersucker texture of my Cozy Bliss comforter totally hides that circular stitching, making the whole bed look far more “finished” and intentionally styled. It has a breezy, almost coastal vibe that really does add to the aesthetics of the room.
This comforter is still very thin, and because I’m used to a big fluffy duvet, it took me a day or so to get used to the new look (it puffed up a bit anyway once I washed it). I worried that I might not feel cozy snuggled up underneath it, but what it lacks in weight this comforter makes up for in softness. I felt like Goldilocks all night (not too hot, never too cold — just absolutely perfect). I could sleep even more soundly knowing that my AC didn’t have to run all night, and hopefully my next electricity bill won’t be quite so high.
What we love
- The instant cooling effect is real — I’ve been sleeping like a baby all summer long
- The seersucker fabric makes it look like a high-end “regular” comforter; no need to sacrifice style for cooling technology
- Cat fur slides right off, keeping the bed looking clean and making wash day that much easier
Good to know
- It is on the thinner side, so make sure you’re prepared for that look if you’re switching from a duvet or traditional comforter
- The brand recommends washing it on a cold, gentle cycle, and air drying to maintain the cooling technology
Should YOU Buy the Cozy Bliss Cooling Comforter in Seersucker Plaid?
If you are a hot sleeper, then absolutely. And don’t just take it from me: An incredible 565 out of 735 Amazon reviews gave this comforter 5 stars. One happy customer wrote, “I absolutely love this comforter! It’s just the right weight … it keeps me warm when A/C is blowing, [but it’s] light and breathable enough that I don’t overheat when A/C is not blowing. And it looks nice on my bed during the day when the bed is made and I’m not sleeping!”
I really can’t recommend this piece enough. No matter where you live, how you sleep, or your personal style, this comforter is a great choice. I chose the white, a gorgeous ivory shade, but the seersucker style also comes in gray, charcoal, khaki, navy blue, and sage green colorways. It’s definitely one of the most stylish cooling comforters you can find, especially at this price point. Right now, the queen size that I have is on sale for just under $60 at Amazon. So snag one for yourself before the summer’s over!
