This Cozy Apartment in The Catskills Sits on Top of an Old General Store
Name: Lauren Espeseth
Location: Catskills — Barryville, New York
Type of home: Apartment
Size: 800 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, owned
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: We (Eric and Sharone Komoroff) own a general store in the Catskills called Barryville General, and we turned the apartment above the shop into a cozy Catskills retreat, right on the Delaware River with the convenience of staying above the healthiest general store this side of the Catskills. We call it Upstairs at Barryville General.
The apartment was decorated with items we’ve owned and collected over many years, and we hope it feels just as effortless and cozy.
Very little is “new” to us or new in the general sense of the word. Almost all of the pieces are collected, well-loved, and feel like they have a story.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Practical, simple, cozy, cool, country
What is your favorite room and why? The living room + dining room + kitchenette is all one space, and it feels so welcoming, communal, and bright.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Low African stools from our friend Tione who owns Of The Cloth, one of our favorite vintage stores in New York.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Go slow!
