The Venus Williams for Crate & Barrel Collection Is Full of Curvy Furniture and Italian Marble
If you thought the current tennis craze sweeping America was going to end with the end of the US Open, well, not this year — at least not yet. That’s because one of the sport’s greats, world champion player Venus Williams, has just dropped an epic furniture and decor collaboration with Crate & Barrel today.
Marrying her love of design with her love of the game, this collaboration marks Williams’ first foray into furniture. It’s also the result of years spent working as a professional interior designer — and tapping into that experience to create the kind of pieces she could never find when sourcing for clients.
What Is the Venus Williams for Crate & Barrel Collection?
Technically, this collaboration is two collections in one: a sophisticated range of furniture, textiles, lighting, and accessories for Crate & Barrel and a playful assortment of furniture, bedding, artwork, and decor for Crate & Kids. Those who haven’t followed Williams’ off-court career might not be as familiar with her design savvy. Not only does she run her own interior design firm, V Starr, but Williams is also a total Italian style aficionado. These collections merge those influences — with touches of tennis — to create a super stylish, Milan-meets-the-court range that features so many unique materials and details.
Using organic shapes and geometry as reference points for the collab, you’ll find Italian marble, travertine, and onyx next to quirky terrazzo in the kids’ line, as well as gorgeous woods like oak and walnut rendered in curvy silhouettes. Hits of velvet, wool, and chenille introduce even more texture to the collection — beds, sofas, chairs, throws, and pillows are all meant to feel like warm — but stylish — hugs. The lighting, in my opinion, is a total standout; the dome-like shapes look lovely rendered in colorful ceramics, and there’s a beautiful marble sconce that looks like something you’d find in a modern Italian palazzo. Many of the pieces also slightly wink at tennis, whether it’s footed ball feet on a bed, a cable knit throw that looks like a tennis sweater, or a court-like grid pattern on a sideboard.
What to Shop from the Venus Williams for Crate & Barrel Collection
Take a look at the full offering across both brands. You’re going to love the mix of materials and the standout design features, from the reclining sofa to the ribbed-leg dining table. Here’s what I have my eye on. Most of the pieces are a splurge, but for the quality, it makes total sense.
