Crate & Kids Just Dropped the Most All-American Converse Collab (It’s Pure Nostalgia!)
Few designs are as iconic or nostalgic as Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers. So many people have owned these shoes over the years — myself included! — it’s no wonder Crate & Kids decided to team up with Converse to kick off the year with a limited-edition exclusive collaboration.
Awash in a sophisticated Americana palette but full of playful touches that reference the design language of classic Chucks, the collection marks the first time Crate has collaborated with a fashion brand — and it’s Converse’s first foray into furniture. Lighting, textiles, artwork, storage, and decor pieces will be available, too.
What Is the Converse for Crate & Kids Collection?
An 80-item-strong assortment, the Converse for Crate & Kids Collection seamlessly blends vintage basketball-court vibes — and surf and skate culture references — with Crate & Kids’ commitment to quality materials, from undyed cotton canvas and organic fabrics to rich woods. It’s a collection that feels whimsical enough for your littles, but grown up enough to last well into the teen years, thanks to neutral finishes like chrome and whitewashed ash that go with just about anything.
“Every detail of this collection was considered with intention, drawing a direct line back to the iconic Chuck Taylor,” said Sebastian Brauer, Crate & Barrel and Crate & Kids’ senior vice president of product design, in a press release. “Together, we translated Converse’s iconic design language into uniquely playful pieces made for kids’ spaces with a heritage feel.”
What does that look like exactly? Think: the super-unique Half Court Desk and Full Court Dresser, which both feature almost brutalist-looking drawer fronts that reference the gym floor of a basketball court. Or the All Star Lamp and its red cord, a nod to Chucks’ crimson mid-sole stripes. The sneakers’ grommet-look eyelets can be seen in the Vent Nightstand fronts as hardware-less pulls, and many of the items feature the recognizable Converse logo.
Prices start at $29 for decor like wall hooks, and range up to $1,798 for a large bookcase unit. The collection is available to shop now.
What a Designer Would Shop from the Converse for Crate & Kids Collection
I don’t know about you, but I’m always wondering what a pro would buy from the latest drop. That’s why I asked Sarah Storms of Styled by Storms, a New Jersey-based designer and mom of three, to curate a few finds for sprucing up a hypothetical kids’ space — especially if she only had $100 to spend on the collection. These were her top budget picks.
