Jewelry dishes aren’t for everyone. It can be so easy to toss your favorite jewelry pieces into a dish on your sink’s counter and forget about them. Necklaces and bracelets are also prone to getting tangled, not to mention being more easily tarnished. The solution doesn’t have to be a formal jewelry organizer, as you’ll find genius hacks on the internet for keeping jewelry handy. And now a content creator has come up with a solution that’s equal parts useful as it is downright gorgeous.

Believe it or not, it all has to do with a vintage piece of crochet. It’s going to keep jewelry organized and make your bathroom look even cuter than it already is. It’s a DIY project that will only take you about five or so minutes to complete.

“DIY this cutie jewelry holder with me,” Instagram creator Laini Ozark said in a recent video. “I’m very picky about DIYs. They have to be easy, cheap, and not look too DIY.”

Using a vintage filet crochet place mat she found at the thrift store, Laini uses pushpins to secure it to her bathroom wall to make a jewelry organizer.

“Then I just organized my jewelry and accessories on it so I can see all my pieces and easily grab them to actually wear what I own,” she said. “I’m so happy with it.”

What to Look for When Sourcing Your Own Crochet Organizer

This DIY project is endlessly customizable. Like Laini, you can source a vintage crochet place mat from an antique or thrift store (you can also find them on Etsy). Or, you can go smaller and pick up a crochet doily or two to fit in a smaller area.

And using pushpins is a great way to get this DIY done in a snap. But you could also swap the pins for hooks to separate the place mat away from the wall to make it easier to get pieces on and off. You could even stretch the piece of crochet taught in an embroidery hoop or frame and hang it on the wall to achieve a similar effect.

“This is revolutionary,” one person commented on Laini’s post. Another said, “Literally the smartest woman alive, wow.” We’re all about to copy this DIY, aren’t we?

However you decide to spin Laini’s crochet place mat jewelry organizer DIY, you’re going to end up with a piece that keeps your jewelry neat and organized and gives your bathroom a bit more interest. Forget that jumbled jewelry dish — this organization method is so much better on so many levels.
