Danielle & Ryan’s Light and Crisp Vancouver Home
Name: Danielle & Ryan
Location: Fraser/Main — Vancouver, British Columbia
Our overall style is minimalist and clean but comfy. We are most inspired by mid-century modern pieces and shapes but like to add bohemian touches for warmth. We also love to freely mixed silver, gold, and brass for a casual and unpretentious feel.
We fell in love with many of our 1912 character homes’ features including its exposed wooden ceiling beam, original Douglas fir doors, large outdoor garden space, and open concept main floor living space.
We purchased the home in summer 2015 and immediately set to work modernizing it. When we bought it, it had some rooms with green ceilings, blue walls, orange walls, old-fashioned oak-cultured cabinets, linoleum kitchen floors, and carpeted stairs. We immediately painted all the walls (and ceilings) a bright white and the doors black. We also painted the kitchen cabinets the same white and updated the hardware. We replaced the floors with light airy European oak throughout. We added a spa-inspired powder room to the main floor for our guests, with a statuario marble feature wall and floating sink. Our favorite items are the art pieces we’ve collected on our travels, the Eames hang it all in the front entrance, and the beautiful antique Persian rug in the kitchen.

We love that we’ve been able make this home feel modern yet classic, minimalist yet cozy, and also retain its heritage and character in the process.
Thanks, Danielle & Ryan!
