Name: Daphne Steinberg
Location: San Francisco, California

I had just moved to San Francisco from New York and came a couple of months before my fiancee to find a job and a home while he finished out his contract at work. Everyone had warned me how tough it was to find a good place in San Francisco, and to prepare myself for months of searching and hellish open houses.

I was really lucky in that I had a relatively easy time — camping out with my computer in coffee shops, refreshing my web browser and setting up viewings the moment something new that looked great came up the first few days I was here. I saw this Edwardian style, light flooded apartment with hardwood floors (my two personal must-haves), amazing molding on the ceilings and the most incredible bay window on Earth as a bonus feature and literally drove directly to the office of the building owners to sign the lease. Fortunately for me I was the only person looking at the apartment and it was in the middle of a work day, so I had no competition!

We knew we wanted to be in one of a few San Francisco neighborhoods, including Nob Hill. I have some good friends who know the city well advising me on which neighborhoods were worth looking in and even busy streets to avoid!

This is the first home my fiancee and I have had that is completely ours, unshared with any roommates. We left almost everything except the bed behind, wanting a clean slate. Being a designer, this was like a dream come true for me rather than a daunting task of getting everything at once, since we had the chance to start from scratch and make it whatever we wanted.

Thanks, Daphne Steinberg!
