Anjoli admits she got to know London pretty well when she was house hunting; she looked at about 80 homes! While she would have preferred a larger space, she couldn’t deny falling in love with the old school charm of the neighborhood of Hampstead, the beautiful park nearby, the terrace, and the overall good vibe of the home.
The home she shares with her partner, Dan, her two daughters Sienna and Tala, and their dog Picasso, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an open-concept living room, kitchen, and dining room, all of which have been painted in a gorgeous array of moody colors and decorated eclectically. There’s also a conservatory flooded with natural light, and a cozy terrace/garden from which Anjoli loves to entertain family and friends. The whole home is full of warm calm coziness coupled with an elegant aesthetic charm. From the deep grayish blue hue featured throughout the first floor to the warm lighting that was carefully and intentionally crafted, you can’t help but want to curl up with a soft blanket in front of the fireplace on one of their beautiful vintage sofas with a warm cuppa tea and a good read!
Anjoli, who is originally from Vancouver, Canada, worked in the fashion industry for several years until she decided to change careers three years ago. “I worked in fashion as a buyer before working with interiors… the career change was definitely inspired by my friends who saw my house and encouraged me to go for it. They all kept asking if I could do theirs! I was always interiors obsessed. I think I’ve always had an obsession for color and texture,” says Anjoli.
As for the secret to creating a home you love? “Don’t be afraid to let your guard down and don’t play it safe. Trust your intuition, take the plunge, and go for bold decisions. If you find something you love, go for it,” she says. “Also, keep a concept board and refer to it. I love the idea of creating a space that transforms the way people see themselves and their life. It’s a whole mental state, and I find it very meaningful and satisfying work. As for our home, I feel like I’ve created a happy, cozy, family home.”
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Dark and moody. Victoriana, velvets, brass, with modernist additions such as concrete surfaces and some modest works of contemporary art!
Inspiration: Light, color, texture. Art books, photography, historic buildings, early modernist architecture.
Favorite Element in your home: Being surrounded by life—natural light through the conservatory window, the open atmosphere of family. I’m also obsessed with the Victorian chandelier I found at an antique store in Camden; it belonged to the notorious socialite Lillie Langtry.
Biggest Challenge: Keeping the kids things organized!
What Friends Say: “Can you design my home?”
Biggest Embarrassment: The state of my garage.
Proudest DIY: The overhaul I did on the garden.
Biggest Indulgence: Rocket R58 coffee machine!
Best Advice: Pay attention to lighting.
