Macy’s is pretty much a one-stop-shop for any and everything home. From bedding and bath staples to kitchen appliances and small decor upgrades, one trip to Macy’s can really refresh a space without requiring a full style makeover.

In a store that has everything, it’s easy to find what you need but also to find what you don’t — meaning it can be difficult to stick to a tight budget. Luckily, I found one designer up to the challenge. I gave Lauren Behfarin, interior designer and founder of Little Room Supply, a budget of just $40 to shop the site. She knows how to stretch a dollar without sacrificing style — plus, she’s a Macy’s shopper herself.

Behfarin focused on pieces that feel thoughtful, versatile, and easy to layer with what you already own. And she knows because she owns one of them already! With spring hosting in mind, the designer chose two timeless pieces of kitchen and table decor. Check out her picks below!

“I’m a big believer that the easiest way to refresh your home isn’t [with] a full makeover, but by updating the accessory pieces you use every day. I chose these blue-toned place mats because they’re cool, easy to clean (a must with kids), and layered with multiple shades of blue and cream. Updating your table is such a simple way to make your space feel new again, especially when it’s something you reach for multiple times a day.”

“To go with them, I love this sweet blue cake stand because it matches the place mats perfectly and instantly makes anything feel more special. Whether it’s cupcakes, fruit or an after-school treat, I always find that once food is lifted off the table, it becomes more inviting and somehow more fun for my kids. It’s proof that thoughtful design doesn’t have to be expensive, just intentional.”
