Estate sales, yard sales, and antique shops were regular weekend destinations for my brother and me as kids. My parents, always on the hunt for period-appropriate decor for our Staten Island 19th-century house, made sure of it. Since then, I’ve had a love for home design and…read more

As a parent to a 3- and 6-year-old, laundry is a constant in my apartment. When shopping, I found the detergent aisle dominated by large, plastic jugs, and after years of using these products, I was never impressed with how my family’s clothes smelled. I began searching for alternatives that were both effective and, crucially, eco-friendly. My search led me to Dirty Labs’ line of laundry essentials, including its Bio Enzyme Laundry Detergent, Scent Dropper and Dryer Balls.

This trio has become my new laundry day essentials, and if you use code EARTHDAY26 at checkout you can score 28% off your autoship order. But it’s just laundry, right? No. These Dirty Lab products have elevated my clothes, and it’s what I have been wanting all these years. Here’s my review.

What Are Dirty Labs’ Bio Enzyme Laundry Detergent, Scent Dropper, and Dryer Balls?

Let’s start with the Bio Enzyme Laundry Detergent. It’s available in an 82-load (21.6 fluid ounces) or 32-load (8.6 fluid ounces) recycled aluminum container, and the smaller container comes with a handy measuring beaker. Developed by a team of green chemists, biologists, and environmentalists, the hyperconcentrated detergents are designed to clean your clothes with biobased ingredients (instead of petrochemicals), which is also cruelty-free and safe for pets and babies. They’re certified EPA Safer Choice and USDA Biobased

The available hypoallergenic scents are the best-selling Signature (magnolia, bergamot, cedar), Murasaki (jasmine, matcha, vetiver), and Free & Clear (fragrance-free), and compatible with traditional and HE washers. The detergents are free from fragrance allergens, parabens, dyes, SLS, and more (check out more info here). Just measure your detergent and drop it in your laundry.

The Scent Dropper is what you disperse onto your Dryer Balls for a scent boost during the drying process. It’s hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and vegan, and also comes in a recycled aluminum container. You can find it with Murasaki and Signature scents.

As a sustainable alternative to conventional dryer sheets and fabric softeners, this three-pack of Dryer Balls is made with responsibly sourced RWS Certified Wool. The balls work by separating and fluffing laundry as it tumbles, which improves air circulation and helps to reduce wrinkles, static, and overall drying time.

Why I Love Dirty Labs’ Laundry Essentials

When the container of Dirty Labs’ Bio Enzyme Laundry Detergent first arrived, I was immediately skeptical. “This is supposed to last for 80 loads?” I wondered. However, after using it for over two months (doing about two loads of laundry each week), I can confirm that the 80-load claim is accurate. I still have plenty left, and I appreciate not having a bulky plastic jug.

The detergent, which I’ve been using in the Murasaki scent, smells elevated straight from the bottle. This scent is inspired by Japan’s early spring green tea harvest, featuring notes of jasmine, matcha, and vetiver (vetiver has a fresh, grassy scent, like rain on a lawn).

For the drying cycle, I use the Murasaki Scent Dropper oil on the Dryer Balls before tossing them into the dryer. This has noticeably reduced my drying time, especially with sheets and duvet covers, and provides a pleasant scent boost. Overall, the fragrance — from the detergent to the dropper — is subtle, never overpowering. Sometimes I catch a whiff of my clothes, and they feel like they were washed in a luxurious hotel.

I’m happy to report that my long search for a clean, great-smelling detergent is finally over. I plan to continue stocking up using the Dirty Labs autoship option, which offers six delivery frequencies (from one to six months) and allows for easy pausing, canceling, or skipping of orders. Plus, the dryer balls are good for up to five years! Don’t wait — use code EARTHDAY26 at checkout to score 28% off your autoship order today.
