This Viral TikTok Shows How To Turn Regular Taper Candles Into Festive Christmas Trees

Nothing completes a tablescape quite like a handful of taper candles — that warm candlelight makes your food and decor that much more magical. But specialty holiday-themed taper candles can be an expensive investment that’s hard to justify because, well, candles melt away to nothing. But one TikToker figured out a way to make their own Christmas-themed taper candles in two easy steps that even the most beginner DIYer can do.

TikTok user Krea Profil (@krea.ideer.til.jer) posted a video on November 18 showing how they turned regular green taper candles into evergreen trees. They first soaked the candles in warm water (for about a minute, as they wrote in the comments) and then took a sharp knife to the softened wax to slice boughs into the taper.

Just make sure you go slow while cutting to prevent accidents. Andleave the bottoms of the candles untouched so you can still fit them into their holders.

And these Christmas tree taper candles can be made with any taper candle you already have in your stash — and any color that fits your theme — making this a no-buy project. 

Using white and metallic taper candles would work for a winter wonderland look. But a rainbow of different colored Christmas tree candles could be fun to add to an eclectic or kitschy tablescape.
