Drew Barrymore Judged the Etsy Design Awards This Year, and Her Winning Picks Are Too Good
If Drew Barrymore says something is amazing, it’s amazing and then some. And this year, the actor, producer, and talk show host judged the second annual “Etsies” design competition alongside Etsy Trend Expert Dayna Isom Johnson. Needless to say, their picks are beyond good.
From gorgeous home decor pieces to expertly crafted and curated fashion and jewelry to clever kids’ toys and pet beds, Barrymore knows best. And you’ll want what she deemed winning essentials.
“I am honored to be a judge for this year’s @Etsy Design Awards (aka The Etsies)!!!” Barrymore captioned an Oct. 27 Instagram post. “Selected by me and my co-judge @daynaisomjohnson from thousands of entries all over the world, these are truly some of the most creative, special items on @Etsy.”
She continued, “Even better, the Etsies is the ultimate way to highlight small businesses around the world and celebrate that special touch they all put into bringing joy to their customers!!!”
The Grand Prize Winner for this year’s Esties is the Stackton Credenza by Adrian Pool, Martinus Pool, and Anne Tranholm, from the Etsy shop AdrianMartinus. “This piece is so beautiful and at first glance, you would never know that it’s actually made out of recycled skateboards—how cool is that?” Drew said, per the official Etsies page. “The design is so sleek, and I really appreciate the functionality of the sliding doors and adjustable shelves.”
In the Home & Living category, Magda Jurek, owner of the Pani Jurek Etsy shop, took home the first-place prize for her test tube chandelier. It was originally designed in 2011 as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of Marie Curie’s Nobel Prize. “You can quickly change a room’s ambience by adding plants or colorful liquids,” Jurek told Etsy.
Drew also is head-over-heels for the winner in the Art category—a macrame wall hanging/planer by Demi Mixon of Demi Macrame Designs on Etsy.
“This plant hanger is one of my favorites!” Drew told Etsy. “I love that it’s called ‘The Achieving Peacemaker,’ and really enjoyed reading about what it stands for,” which, according to the Etsy creator, is vibrancy and joy.
