With six people in my home, there’s no shortage of activity and no shortage of messes to clean — from overall clutter and dirt being tracked inside, to food spills, to my everlasting battle with pet hair. So it’s not uncommon to find me with a cleaning tool in my hand, and more often than not it’s a Dyson; the brand’s WashG1 floor cleaner, in particular, has been a superhero for my tile and wood laminate floors.

Even better, you can snag the Dyson WashG1 for 48% off right now, which brings the price down from $769.99 to $399.99. Here’s what makes this wet/dry vacuum an essential in my home.

Quick Overview

Design Features That Stand Out

The Dyson WashG1 is a lightweight wet/dry floor cleaner that’s suitable for homes of all sizes, thanks to its compact footprint (for small spaces) and its wide reach of up to 3,000 square feet (for large spaces). Designed to clean hard flooring from tile to sealed wood, it’s equipped with powerful suction, three cleaning modes that allow you to choose how much water is used, and a convenient self-cleaning cycle that takes a little over two minutes to complete.

Its double-roller system helps to remove stubborn stains and does “twice the work” to pick up wet and dry messes. The rollers rotate in opposite directions, which allows one to do the actual washing while the other finishes up the job without leaving behind streaks or leftover dirt.

How It Performed

The Dyson WashG1 isn’t overly complicated to set up; it includes a QR code with video instructions for assembly, and doesn’t come with too many parts. I use mine routinely for high-traffic areas — specifically the entryway, bathrooms, and an open space that’s designated as the “lounge” area in my home. The WashG1 does a great job picking up stray debris and removing the top layer of film and dirt that you wouldn’t typically notice with the naked eye. As a result, my floors are noticeably cleaner — even when they weren’t that grimy to begin with!

The most cumbersome task I’ve faced with the WashG1 is removing the filter material that separates the dry debris from the water, simply because of how tightly it fits into the machine — but it’s nowhere near a dealbreaker. I’d also say that it’s best for larger surface areas in the home, as it can’t get close enough for really tight spaces (such as tiny bathrooms that don’t have much room between the toilet, sink, and shower). I’ve had Dyson’s WashG1 for nearly two years now, and have had a pleasant experience with it overall.

What I Loved

  • Optimal runtime: Because the WashG1 runs for roughly half an hour on a single charge, I can clean multiple rooms in a short amount of time. I especially love that I don’t have to worry about scrubbing with my hands or dealing with a mop bucket.
  • Self-cleaning feature: I like that I can let the WashG1 handle the heavy-lifting when it comes to cleaning the machine. Once the self-cleaning cycle wraps up, all that’s left to do is empty the dirty water reservoir and the debris tray.

Good to Know

If using a cleaning solution with the Dyson WashG1, a gentle and bleach-free, low-foaming cleaning solution (diluted) is recommended and must be purchased separately. Too much cleaning solution will cause a lot of suds while cleaning, which you want to avoid as best you can.

Additionally, even though the WashG1 goes above and beyond a traditional mop and bucket, you still have to give your floor a little time to dry completely.

Should You Buy the Dyson WashG1?

The Dyson WashG1 is a powerful floor cleaner that I’d recommend to the following:

  • Those in homes with all (or mostly) hard floors
  • Those who’d like a wet/dry vac that’s effective in large and small rooms with open flooring
  • Those looking for a wet/dry vacuum that’s freestanding and doesn’t take up a ton of space
