An Eclectic Virginia House Is Serving Up Chunky Crown Molding and Ceiling Wallpaper Inspiration
Name: Cass Smith, my husband, and our two girls (plus our German Shepherd)
Location: Gloucester, Virginia
Type of home: House
Size: 3,600 square feet
Years lived in: 2.5 years, owned
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: When we first moved in two years ago, it was brown everywhere. But I could see so much potential with the archways and chunky crown molding.
I’m still replacing boob lights and working on one room at a time, but it feels so much more light and airy and charming! I have so many exciting plans for this house!
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Modern, traditional, casual, and eclectic.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is my living room. It is the perfect representation of my style! It’s so inviting and cozy and full of my favorite DIY projects (my reupholstered velvet chair, lime-washed fireplace, and DIY frame TV). In the late afternoon, the sun comes beaming in through the windows and makes it feel so dreamy. I look forward to being in that space every day!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I recently bought this modern artwork that is going in an empty vintage frame on my mantel!
Any advice for creating a home you love? I think that creating a home you love takes time and focus. Study a room or space that you love to find out why you love it and be intentional about using those things in your space.
I also think that making a home with your own hands is so fulfilling! Being able to admire the work that you did to create a space is such a special feeling!
