Name: Emily & Erica
Location: Armory District — Providence, Rhode Island

Our home is a 1850s gothic revival (circa 1900) in the armory district on the west side of Providence, Rhode Island—an area we love with lots of historic architecture and great food options within walking distance. We live here with our two terrible-adorable dogs, Kevin & Sally. When we bought this house three years ago, it was a chopped-up and severely neglected two-unit multi-family and we gutted it and renovated it back to a single family with an open concept main floor and a lofted office space on the third floor.

We left joists and plumbing/electric exposed to help us achieve the warm, industrial cottage look we favor. We also incorporated a mix of salvaged items and materials throughout—such as the oar banister and lots of repurposed wood taken from the home during demo. We’re both particularly fond of the repurposed factory cart kitchen island with salvaged marble top and the vanity in our master bath, which is made of a salvaged metal work bench and a sealed wood countertop/shelf built by Erica’s father. Ultimately this home just really feels like the both of us: all of our quirks and small obsessions get a space.
