Why we have a crush on this property

Care to live in the home of a celebrity designer and HGTV star? This airy post-and-beam in the hills of Glendale was once the domain of design darling Emily Henderson—and it could soon be yours.

From 2013 to 2017, Henderson lived in the house outside of Los Angeles with her family, featuring it prominently on her blog, stylebyemilyhenderson.com, and opening it up for tours to shelter magazines like Domino and Good Housekeeping.

The mid-century home was built in 1964. Henderson writes that when she bought it, the place retained unsavory details, like “gross ‘original’ carpet, outdated everything and a lot of painted brown ceilings.” She spent the next three years restoring and renovating her first-ever home, and chronicled those updates on her blog. Luckily for this home’s new owners, Henderson’s stylish touches remain.

The main living room boasts a step-down seating area with a soaring stone fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows that drench the place in sunlight. The walls of glass lead to a renovated balcony, where you can glimpse the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory, and some killer sunsets.

Henderson transformed the kitchen into a breezy in-home oasis, converting the bottom cabinets to a deep blue color. She also brightened the family room and several bedrooms by painting the beamed ceilings white, and completely overhauled a bathroom with brass fixtures and scalloped tiling. The playful wall coverings in her son’s room, meanwhile, still remain.
