English Cottage Meets American Colonial in a Gorgeous Ohio Home
Name: Megan Miller, my husband Jesse and our two daughters, Navy and June
Location: Alliance, Ohio
Size: 1,250 square feet
Years lived in: 4.5 years, owned
I share my home with my husband Jesse and our two daughters, Navy (3) and June (1). I’m a homebody at heart and spend most of my time at home taking care of our girls, so I wanted it to be a place I truly enjoyed being in. I love antiques and vintage home goods because I feel they bring warmth, charm, and history to a home.
When renovating our house, I kept the main elements of the home simple and clean; all white walls and trim, subdued colors palettes; that way, the antique finds I’ve collected over the years really stand out.
What is your favorite room and why? Right now, it’s the kitchen! We recently ripped out our upper cabinets so we could add a window that looks out to our backyard. Now when I’m preparing meals, I can have a view of my girls playing outside. It’s the best!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I love thrifting, and recently found a great antique dining table for 45 bucks at a local thrift store. I love thinking about all the family meals that have already taken place around it!
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I love old house charm. Our house was built in the ’60s, so it lacks that old home feeling. I’d love to live in a house with creaky 100-year-old wood floorboards, or beautiful detailed molding, or large original wood windows. Maybe someday!
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Maybe Leslie Knope. Ha! We both share a love of history, and she would probably appreciate some of the old furniture and decor I have.
Thanks, Megan Miller!
