Etsy’s 2020 Holiday Trends Will Help You Get a Head Start on Gift Giving
With an unexpected shopping season ahead, people are already filling their virtual carts with holiday gifts. Even if you aren’t pressing “complete order” just yet, you might find yourself already mulling over what to get loved ones—especially if it’s being received from afar. If you’re already stumped as to what to look for, Etsy just released their 2021 Holiday Trend Guide that might help spark some one of a kind ideas.
Etsy’s holiday trend report gives a sneak peek into the items that are predicted to be most popular this year, based on search upticks that are already happening. We know that the season ahead is looking vastly different due to the pandemic keeping people physically apart, so it comes as no surprise that long-distance gifting is top of mind—which explains searches for “care packages” being up by 235 percent.
Beloved Box
These care packages can range from this “Beloved Box” kit that includes a roll on perfume, essential oil candle, and mist, to a cookie, mug, and tote bag box. “With many unable to see family and friends in person this year, Etsy sellers are helping shoppers let their loved ones know they are thinking of them from a distance with personalized care packages,” according to a press release.

In addition to care packages, other long-distance gifting ideas are a “you and me” puzzle piece ornament, comforting blanket, and “a family’s love shows no distance” sign.
Another gift category that is expected to be popular is “family games” that’s up in search by 50 percent, which encompasses decorative board games and puzzles. In other words, something that can be played with while doubling as decor—like this NYC architectural chess set or monochrome wooden name puzzle—is the way to go.
Roman Candles
Speaking of decor, Etsy’s holiday trend report also dives deeper into what decorations people are either looking to give or deck their own halls with. Sculptural candles—like these Roman Candles—is one category that caught our attention, with a 86 percent search increase in abstract, modern and geometric candles. “Sellers are putting a creative spin on holiday decor staples and reinventing traditional taper, pillar, and votive candles,” the Holiday Trend Guide read.

Other decor items included outdoor blankets (up 186 percent), citrus decor (up 126 percent), and pet advent calendars (up 43 percent). Coziness, energizing, and pets as priorities? Sounds about right to me.
