Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: When musician Leeroy Stagger and his designer/artist wife Coby Starck decided to pack it up and leave Alberta at the beginning of Covid, they had no idea that a 1973 Airstream would be their lifeline. They knew they wanted to be back on the West Coast of Canada, so when Covid hit it was kind of an epiphany moment for the couple and their two young boys, Guthrie and Ewan. They listed their house on Instagram and sold it within a few days. Because of the hot market in Victoria, BC they had to buy their new house sight unseen, a 1950 mid-century fixer. The new owners were set on moving on a certain date, as were the sellers, with no wiggle room. Luckily, they had the Airstream! They lived out of it for weeks before they got possession of their house. They shipped some of their belongings via a shipping container; most of the furniture was worked into the house deal with the buyers.

Originally when they bought the 1973 Airstream, it was really dark and outfitted in walnut and orange countertops, along with a lot of heavy beige drapery. The unit came with the original manual, which was really cool, definitely sold the dream. Coby re-worked/designed the 1973 Airstream into a bright, colorful, fun space. When the couple and children aren’t roving around the country the unit is parked in their driveway and is used to put up musicians recording in the studio or friends and family visiting.

“I am an artist/ designer so my home and the spaces I create are always a reflection of who I am,” explains Coby. “I love to create using color. My process always starts with a color story inspiration, whether it’s a piece of art or a rug or another accessory or textile. I think your space tells a story of who you are. I like to create bright and light airy spaces with personality.”

What is your favorite room and why? The front lounge area. The windows in Airstreams are what make them so special, they diffuse so much light. It also converts into the coziest bed.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I painted the canvas curtains that I made in the kitchen.
