Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: We are a blended family with four kids (two boys, and two girls). My husband and I are entrepreneurs and avid DIYers who are slowly renovating this house while also chasing kids around and changing diapers. I’m an interior designer and realtor, and he owns a vintage hifi repair and restoration business. Our historic home was built in 1851, and the master bedroom is the first room we have finished. We are slowly restoring the exterior by removing faded and broken vinyl siding to restore the original clapboard. Up next is our kitchen renovation!
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Eclectic traditional Maine farmhouse
What is your favorite room and why? Our master bedroom is my favorite by a long shot. I tell all of my clients to start with their master to create a quiet retreat while they renovate their homes, and I finally took my own advice on this, my third fixer-upper. It’s a lovely place for us to unwind, and actually is the room where I gave birth to our two youngest sons!
Any advice for creating a home you love? Be really judicious with the objects you bring into your home, making sure they are both beautiful AND functional. Take your time curating a home you love. It’s always worth it to wait for investment pieces you will treasure for years instead of filling the space with cheap alternatives.
