Did you know one of America's most loved 90s pop icons is at the helm of her own Hallmark Channel movie franchise? Jewel, who continues to successfully pull off going only by her first name despite transitioning into an acting career, is the lead in her third Fixer Upper Mystery, which premiered this month, following two previous 2017 movies in the series.
Deadly Deed: A Fixer Upper Mystery is the follow-up to Concrete Evidence and Framed for Murder, all three of which center around Jewel as Shannon Hughes, the owner of Hughes Construction Company and an expert in Victorian home restoration and renovation. Colin Ferguson also appears, playing a love interest for Jewel's character in all three made-for-TV projects.
The concept is based on the Fixer Upper Mysteries book series by Kate Carlisle. In the books, the main character's name is Shannon Hammer, but that joke was too on the nose even for the Hallmark Channel.
Although Chip and Joanna Gaines are in no way tied to the franchise, there's likely to be some overlap among Fixer Upper audiences and those who love a good mystery thrown in along with some historic home renovation eye candy. Jewel herself admitted to being a big Murder, She Wrote fan, which essentially means Jewel is all of us.
I'm here for all of my favorite 90s singers taking on acting roles in 2018. What are the odds that Jewel works a musical performance in, the way Mandy Moore gets to sing once in a while on This Is Us?
