A Tiny “Scandinavian Cabin” in Portland

This is our tiny house (216 square feet) within the growing Concordia neighborhood in NE Portland. The home started as a garage space that was historically permitted as a living space in the 1940s under WWII war time code. So, the tiny house itself has some interesting history.

Over the last year, we have refurbished the space doing the bulk of the finish work ourselves and involving a local designer, Emily Katz as a consultant for the interior decor. We like to describe the space as a small Scandinavian cabin with bright vintage touches. The space has been painted an airy white and has tall ceilings and custom, warm wood floors. We love the space because it has a cozy feeling with clean lines and pops of color.

Some of our favorite items are: the vintage kilim rug used as a head board, some of the weaving, macrame, handmade ceramics and art pieces incorporated into the house. We also love the addition of plants and natural materials around the house. Friends often comment of how well curated the space feels. The space looks and feels bigger than it is, which is key to making a tiny house feel comfortable. We also enjoy the addition of the front patio with seating that looks on to a backyard garden chicken coop.
