I’m Never Ironing Linen Again After Learning Her Trick for Removing Wrinkles

I have a lot of clothes and not a lot of space in my room, which means everything is a bit crammed together. From a storage perspective this is workable, but it does mean that my clothes — especially my summer linens — tend to get wrinkled.

I don’t own an iron or ironing board, and my steamer has seen better days, which is why I was so excited to learn a trick for banishing wrinkles from linen clothing without any of those tools. You just need water and a spray bottle. The hack takes no time, and can be done almost anywhere!

I first came across this clever idea in a video by Jean Wang, a fashion influencer. She recently went on a summer trip to Japan with her family and packed a lot of linen clothing. Linen is famously nice for warm weather due to its breathability, but it can also easily wrinkle — especially after spending a long time in a suitcase.

Rather than deal with an iron or steamer, she freshens her clothes by taking a spray bottle (or, in this case, asking her hotel for one) and lightly spraying them with water while she’s still wearing them. She finishes her hair and makeup while the fabric dries, and voila! Her outfit is now smooth and wrinkle-free. I personally love this idea because, while I can pull out my steamer from time to time, being able to get the wrinkles out of my fit without having to bear the heat of the steamer is a huge win. 

The comment section of Wang’s video is filled with people co-signing her simple method of smoothing out wrinkled clothes. Some people say they’ve been doing it for years.

 “I have curly hair so a spray bottle is always in my toiletry bag. It does double duty … I spray my hair to refresh the curls and spray my clothing to remove the wrinkles,” Jullcalder1 writes, adding that it isn’t just useful for linen, but also “works well for rayon, cotton, and many other fabrics as well.” And if you can’t find a spray bottle, you can just splash water on your clothes using your hands. It’s that easy! I’m trying this next time I need to de-wrinkle my outfit.
