If we’re all being honest here, there’s a stage in anyone who’s under 30 and recently moved to New York’s life that happens: we assume it will be something like an episode of “Girls.” Maybe a significant other dumps you before/after your short story reading, or you get splashed by a cab right before a job interview and have to explain why you’d be a good something or other, and then you come home to your weirdly gigantic apartment for a freelance writer. You know, New York-y things.

Well, rarely are these shows spot-on to the average New Yorker’s life, as we all quickly realize, but for those clinging to the dream of a “Girls” life in the city, a window has just opened up. Zosia Mamet, who plays Shoshanna Shapiro, has her former 2-bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side listed for $5,000 a month in rent. Setting aside her character and friends’ penchant for Bushwick rooftop parties and downtown bars, Mamet’s IRL apartment is a smart, refined space in a neighborhood known less for it’s bustle and trendsetting and more for its quieter, relaxed state for New Yorkers.

Mamet and husband Evan Jonigkeit bought the co-op apartment for $1.6 million in 2015, moving from the perhaps “hipper” neighborhoods in Brooklyn. The apartment is located on the ground floor of a classic Upper West Side building with many of the flourishes kept in tact like a marble bathroom and wainscoting. The apartment is a departure from her character’s in “Girls,” but maybe more in line with that of her character’s in “The Boy Downstairs,” her acclaimed 2017 film. The building also has a stylish lobby and full time doorman in place, as well as a private garden for Mamet’s former apartment.

For anyone looking for a place to step away from the faster-paced downtown scene and enjoy a welcomed respite uptown after a long day, having Shoshanna as your landlord could be a perfect fit.
