The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and I’ve already begun to spot glimmering Christmas trees in store windows. When covering design and decorating, you see a lot of emerging trends, and companies naming colors of the year is no new development. So I wasn’t shocked to hear that Wayfair was riffing on this practice by announcing the hottest tree color for 2020. I was surprised, however, to hear that their pick was gold, since rose gold has been in the spotlight the past few years.

According to the brand, site searches for gold and champagne-toned trees has far outpaced other colors and styles over the past three months, and that’s how they arrived at this decision. Why all the gold? Well, it may have something to do with the perceived psychology behind gilded shades. “The color gold is believed to lift spirits and inspire optimism,” says Ryan Stender, seasonal decor expert at Wayfair. “Given the challenges of 2020, gold Christmas trees will add a positive moment to our homes as we look to the holiday season.”

I’m certainly all for a little extra sparkle and shine these days, so if you, too, feel like hopping on board this festive tree trend, I’ve got you covered. Shop five of my favorite gold- and champagne-colored trees below, then let me know how you’d style them! My biggest question for you: Themed tree or no theme?

6ft Champagne Tinsel Artificial Pencil Tree

This tinsel tree is just $60 and is on the tall and thin side, making it a great pick if you’re dealing with a small space or a little corner nook. It’s sure to bring plenty of sparkle on its own but would also look lovely with the addition of white twinkle lights.

Champagne Fir 3′ Artificial Christmas Tree with 100 Clear Lights

Need something a bit more petite? This mini tree is excellent for a bedroom or a kids’ space and packs a cheerful punch for under $100. It’s pre-lit with clear lights, too, so it’s easy to set up in a snap.

Toasted Champagne Gold Tinsel Tree

I’m also loving this option for a tinsel tree, which is a bit wider and comes in both six- and seven-foot sizes. Because its needles and tips are a mix of tinsel, gold, and white, this pick has lots of depth and can support even the heaviest of ornaments on its fully hinged branches. Save a little on cost by ordering yours unlit.

White/Gold Tinsel 9′ Christmas Tree

Looking for something to emphasis your tall ceilings? This nine-foot tree is certainly a sparkly showstopper! It’s a beautiful, modern alternative to your traditional evergreen and would look extra stunning with some simple white ball ornaments on it. There’s nothing like mixing classic and contemporary, especially when it comes to holiday decor.
