A $180 Kitchen Redo Is Bursting with Vibrant Colors and Renter-Friendly Hacks
Two of Lyric and Chantelle’s, of Casa Garnish, favorite pastimes are cooking and hosting. However, their kitchen, which was last updated in 2016, wasn’t proving to be the most inspiring environment for those two activities.
“The kitchen was your classic old kitchen with gray walls and wood cabinets and standard granite countertops,” Chantelle and Lyric explain. “To us, the kitchen lacked character, so we wanted to make it a space that felt nice to be in, especially because we love to cook and we love to host.”
They Wanted Their Kitchen to Be Bursting with Their Favorite Colors
Lyric and Chantelle wanted to reimagine their kitchen bursting in colors, specifically their favorites: green and pink. They actually drew a lot of inspiration from Dakota Johnson’s kitchen, which is full of green hues. (They’re not the only ones inspired by this green-drenched kitchen.)
Fresh Paint and Butcher Block Transformed the Kitchen
Because adding color to the gray room was so important, Lyric and Chantelle went back and forth on paint colors until they landed on Sherwin-Williams’ “Garden Spot” for the cabinets and Behr’s “Fresh Artichoke” for the walls. But the warmth didn’t just come from the newly added paint.
“We love contact paper and its ease and affordability in transforming a space,” Lyric and Chantelle share. “We’d done butcher block contact paper in our previous kitchen, and it held up exceptionally well, so we figured, why not do the same in this space. We knew that the warm tones in the butcher block would complement the greens really well.”
A Contact Paper Hack Saved Their All-White Fridge
When adding other fun details to the kitchen, they were reminded of a quote from Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Nene Leakes, where she said, “Oh, not a white refrigerator.” So, they covered it in pink cow print decals to add a splash of their other favorite color. The bright orange new cabinet knobs added such a vibrant pop to the kitchen, too.
Chantelle and Lyric completed their $180 makeover in just two days before moving into the space, which they both admit was a lifesaver. What once started as a gray blank slate now represents the pair and serves as the space for new memories and delicious cooking.
Now the Kitchen Feels Warmer and Is the Perfect Mix of Them
“We love how much bigger it feels and how warm it feels. It almost feels like a set you’d see on a cooking show,” Chantelle and Lyric explain. “We spend time together there cooking and catching up after long workdays. We love making sweet treats, whether it’s cookies or yogurt cakes.”
