Old-fashioned portraits often look haunted all on their own. Throw in some optical illusions, and things get straight-up terrifying!

Just ask TikTok content creator Shelby (@shelbykreutzberg), who recently went viral for showing off her “haunted hallway.”

In Shelby’s video, the camera pans down a hallway in her St. Louis home as “This Is Halloween” from The Nightmare Before Christmas plays. The space is fully decked out for the season, featuring purple lights, faux cobwebs, and hanging bat decorations on the ceiling and walls. But things get truly creepy when she calls viewers’ attention a shape-shifting, Victorian-era portrait of a little boy. As you move closer, the boy’s face turns ghoulish, with oozing black goo and white eyes.

Since Shelby shared her hallway TikTok, the video has racked up over 353,000 likes and 3.8 million views.

“Is it sad to say I would never take it down?” one commenter wrote.

“That hall picture!” another viewer said.

One commenter suggested an easy way to make the haunted portrait even creepier.

“I saw people elevating that changing portrait by cutting it and putting it into a thrifted frame,” they wrote, to which Shelby replied: “Love that idea!!! Thank you!”

Shelby added that she bought the shape-shifting portrait from Amazon. Although she didn’t specify which exact product she purchased, you can find plenty of similar Halloween decorations on the online retailer, such as the brand Lansian’s 3-pack of 3-D moving Halloween portraits. You can also purchase UnLiving portraits from Atmos FX, which offers three moving ghoulish digital portraits for $29.
