The $11 Amazon Find That Instantly Doubled My Closet Space (and It’s on Sale!)
I’ve always struggled with keeping my bedroom closet organized — even when I was a teenager who was blessed with a walk-in. But that teenager would be shocked if she knew what kind of space I was working with in Brooklyn. My bedroom can essentially only fit my bed, so all clothes must go in the closet or underneath the bed in storage bags. Last year, I was at my wit’s end, because my workout clothes could not be squeezed or squished onto my short and skinny closet shelves, so I went hunting on Amazon for a solution to my problem. I stumbled upon this three-shelf collapsible organizer, and my closet has never been tidier.
Looking at the images of the product, I was a little skeptical that it wouldn’t be able to fit all of my t-shirts, leggings and running sweatshirts, but I decided that for $17 (this organizer was not on sale when I bought it), it was worth a shot.
This 12″ by 29″ organizer arrived flattened, but it only took a matter of mere minutes for me to put the inserts in and hook this onto my closet shelf. It’s made out of polyester fabric, so it is washable — though I’ve never felt the need to do so. As I started filling it, I became a little concerned that my clothes would slip beyond the guard and fall onto my closet floor, but luckily, that worry was for nothing. I was able to stock it with around 15-ish t-shirts on the top row, 10-12 pairs of leggings and shorts on the second tier, and five sweatshirts on the bottom.
As you can see from this photo, I have been using the room between the top of the organizer to the closet rod to store some additional bulky sweatshirts. It doesn’t have the most aesthetically appealing effect, but it gets the job done. My closet is usually sealed by two mirrored sliding doors, so the slight disorder is out of sight.
The closet organizer has stayed put since I bought it a year ago, and I know when it comes time to move, I simply just need to flatten it and pack it away. Unlike other closet-organizing solutions, it isn’t going to be a pain to transport.
