My apartment isn’t all that small, aside from the bathroom. With virtually no built-in storage, my tiny countertop easily becomes a chaotic mess of toiletries, cotton swabs, floss picks, nail clippers, and eye drops no matter how often I tidy up. For the longest time, I thought that’s just how it would always be. Then, inspiration struck in the most unexpected place: my local gym.

My bathroom is a strange place. It has two showers (yes, really) and, naturally, one toilet. I have under-sink storage, and technically the bathroom mirror opens up to what should be a shelved medicine cabinet — except there are no shelves in the medicine cabinet at all. It’s just empty space. As such, and because my bathroom is on the smaller side, I need more storage in my bathroom, always.

When it comes to workspaces, I find I need plenty of small-space storage solutions that can keep up with all of my pens, crafting supplies, and other desk accoutrement. If there’s one adage I live by, it’s that there should be a place for everything, and everything should be in its place. I’m a typical “Type A” eldest daughter, and the thought of not putting things back where they belong as soon as I’m done with them is simply beyond comprehension. Normally, this dedication to organization is a positive trait.

When it comes to storage in my small bathroom, I have three options: an already-full medicine cabinet, a slim under-sink cabinet (and the tiny countertop) with barely enough room to fit cleaning supplies, and two floating glass shelves above my toilet. I’m not one for visual clutter, so I’ve only put a few items on the glass shelves (which makes them an impractical solution).
