IKEA Is Quietly Discontinuing This $5 Shoe Organizer That Doubles as Closet Storage

While IKEA is always releasing new products, it also has some product lines it’s been selling for years or even decades. Still, sometimes even the most useful products get discontinued. The latest gem to be phased out at IKEA is a multifaceted shoe rack that doubles as a closet organizer — and you can still get it for a very low price.

IKEA’s GREJIG shoe rack has been around since at least 2018, and this versatile, foldable, stackable shelf has become a fan favorite. Made of dark gray (or red) coated steel, it measures 22 7/8 inches wide, 10 5/8 inches deep, and 6 3/4 inches tall when the legs are set up. Because it’s a raised shelf, you can store items on top of the shelf as well as below it — which also means you can put it on a preexisting shelf to create a second storage tier — and it conveniently folds up completely flat so it can be easily stashed against a wall or in a closet. It’s also only $5. 

The product description notes that each rack holds three pairs of shoes, and while it can be used in “areas with high humidity such as bathrooms and balconies,” the rack shouldn’t get wet. You’re also able to stack up to three racks on top of each other, which should create a good amount of vertical storage without taking up too much space. You can also use it to stack sweaters, pants, or even canned goods as needed. It gives your closet (or pantry!) vertical, open-air storage.

If there’s one reason shoppers should go for this IKEA shoe rack right now, it’s that the gray colorway won’t be around for much longer, as it’s been marked as a “Last Chance to Buy” item on IKEA’s website. 

People love this thing. “This doubles the amount of shoes one can store on shelves,” Seanne writes in a review on IKEA’s site. “Allows air to filter through so that shoes can dry thoroughly too!” (Convenient if you have a pool, or do a lot of yard work, or are trudging through snow every day like I am at this point.) 

People like the GREJIG for closet and shoe storage, but that’s not all. “I bought this to create shelving for my desk. It’s well-constructed and sturdy and can hold quite a bit of stuff. I like that it is stackable,” writes reviewer Lina.
