Q: I need your help. I live in a 50s ranch house, which overall I love. However, the creaky floors are driving me crazy, especially because I have a toddler who is a light sleeper who on occasion WAKES UP because I happened to walk by his bedroom.

We don’t want to have to rip up the floors and put in new flooring because the hardwood itself is in good condition. Is there a way to fix this or make the creaking less noisy without such a drastic overhaul? — Sent by Carol

Editor: Thanks so much Carol. A nice thick rug and rug pad should help muffle some of the noise, but hit us with your suggestions in the comments! — thanks!
