In today’s market, it’s easy to get discouraged after writing an offer and being beat out by another buyer. But imagining that happening eight times. In the latest episode of HGTV’s “Call the Closer,” that’s exactly what happened to one couple looking to settle into a new home before getting married. And that’s when they, well, called the “closer” (host and real estate expert Lauren Risley).

Drew and Michelle had been dating for 10 years and wanted to find a more spacious place before becoming newlyweds, and they were looking for the right fixer upper to call home. Once they sealed the deal on a property in Brentwood, a suburb of St. Louis, Risley wasted no time getting to work so the place could be move-in ready before their wedding.

Based on what the couple told her about their wants and styles, Risley settled on a mid-century modern-meets-<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="farmhouse%20vibe%20for%20their%20home.%20And%20for%20the%20bedroom,%20that%20meant%20adding%20more%20light,%20warm%20tones,%20and%20wooden%20furniture%20%E2%80%94%20oh,%20and%20a%20few%20plants%20because,%20why%20not?%20

Risley%20painted%20one%20accent%20wall%20a%20deep%20blue-green%20tone,%20making%20the%20resting%20spot%20of%20the%20room%20the%20focal%20point.%20Speaking%20of%20the%20bed,%20its%20woven%20cane%20frame%20delivered%20those%20mid-century%20vibes%20that%20Drew%20and%20Michelle%20yearned%20for.%20The%20warm%20palette%20of%20wood,%20gray,%20and%20a%20pop%20of%20yellow%20created%20a%20bit%20of%20that%20farmhouse%20feel.%20
%0A%0A%0A<!--%20wp:cgb/cloudinary-image%20%7B" assets="" owned="" time="" use="" url="" did="" not="" fire="" photoshop="" lightroom="" classic="" adobe="" camera="" raw="" cc="" colorclass:1="" rating:0="" framenum:003047="" f="" ii="" usm="" centery="0.581177," radius="0.009767," sourcestate="sourceAutoComputed," sourcex="0.661914," sourcey="0.586832," spottype="heal," centerx="0.714421," standard="" dfa71bb8bd974d46feaba82a1d1d1cbf="" f9775f97ecf94c5364536e8b15b49712="" adobe:docid:photoshop:09abf069-78aa-11e9-83b0-c5edd24a21b2="" adobe:docid:photoshop:17c7c49f-1f0d-974e-a13b-f2b9d7932cbc="" adobe:docid:photoshop:2ca2abdd-bb88-a04a-a013-1ac19a9af18f="" adobe:docid:photoshop:41f56594-8dad-b147-a8db-8083ac9481d2="" adobe:docid:photoshop:5fef1900-78aa-11e9-83b0-c5edd24a21b2="" adobe:docid:photoshop:7ce20160-2ead-117a-b1f9-d80ee68cdf43="" adobe:docid:photoshop:e7011f90-4a52-117a-8069-d2e1fced8e3d="" xmp.did:34c507c7-f7ba-4bdc-9953-d34a9e7b01ec="" xmp.did:3fbb177ac72611e7a665f95997098f83="" core="" iec61966-2.1="" exposure="" index="" ef="" l="" xmp.iid:ec9a2969-5555-4707-bc3d-97155bdd6454="" xmp.iid:a099800f-b08f-4d6f-8f55-ce98e46553b2="" xmp.iid:02bf4761-ba27-4d41-9a89-ed4b493a477d="" xmp.iid:d1f407d4-0636-4f45-ace3-370413ab51e0="" xmp.iid:aec5f7cf-c7df-4474-b7b5-29ac5ed1c08a="" xmp.iid:8fda6d01-11f4-4189-bf3f-f7e83095785d="" xmp.iid:fb64b775-6c56-4537-8536-671a6fb06ccc="" mm="" from="" image="" to="" saved="" new="" location="" application="" converted="" after="" before="" derived="" eos="" mark="" f2.8="" raw.lcp="" iv="" ctc="">

The bathroom was also a massive undertaking. What used to be a cramped, tiled disaster needed to be transformed into a relaxing space, as a bathroom should be.

To do this, Risley added interest and texture by installing gray polygon-shaped floor tiles, long light gray tiles in the shower, and blue patterned wallpaper next to one another, which created an eye-popping design. The floating vanity brought additional warmth into the space, and the bronze hardware created a stylistic flow throughout the room. And does the color palette look familiar? The bedroom and bathroom are truly twinning.

All in all, Drew and Michelle were more than pleased with their newly transformed home — but you’ll have to watch the episode to see their reactions for yourself.

“Call the Closer” airs every Monday at 9/8 p.m. central on HGTV and Discovery+.
